Psalm 35

Lord, battle against those arrayed against me! Stand up to them! Guide my shield and sword, and rise to my help! Draw your arms against those who chase me! Remind my soul “I am your salvation!” Dishonour those who are after my career! Turn them back; thwart their evil plans! Make them like chaff in… Continue reading Psalm 35

Pre3xistence Rethink

So I’ve decided that it was perhaps unkind to expect to go cold-turkey onto WebOS without proper preparation.  Given the (to me at least) critical nature of my phone, it may be wiser to start out with the Pre3 as an ancillary device until she & I have  warmed to each other’s foibles. I’m still… Continue reading Pre3xistence Rethink

Pre3xistence Day 2 Challenge

It being the first day of the work week, today’s challenge will be to last a whole day under normal usage. Given the 1230mAh battery inside it (vs the iPhone 4S’s 1450mAh non-removeable one), and the demands of a full work-day, this will likely be make or break…

Pre3xistence Day 1 redux

Homebrewing is fraught with difficulty… After googling and a lot of trial and error, this is how it worked for me: – Enable developer mode on the Pre: + ‘just type’ the following: webos20090606, then run the secret app and follow its instructions. – Download and install the Palm SDK on the Mac – it… Continue reading Pre3xistence Day 1 redux

Pre3xistence Day 1

Today was the day the SIM went in and the full immersion was to start. After yesterday’s random reboot problems were solved, there was still a niggling issue with performance. Touch responsiveness has always seemed sluggish and reactive, and according to precentral (again) this was because of detailed logging being switched on by default. If… Continue reading Pre3xistence Day 1

Pre3xistence: Day 0

After all the enthusiasm of last night, this morning’s cold hard daylight revealed a clean cutover would require some additional tools (like a micro-SIM tray). These will be acquired post-haste. In the meanwhile, I have been playing carrying out detailed testing of the Pre as a fat iPod Touch. Items of note from day zero:

Pre3xistence Prelude

This evening, a good friend popped over with his kids for dinner. And with a small box from America. Apparently, despite its being killed off prior to launch by the even shorter-lived CEO Leo, the AT&T-version Pre3 is available for sale – if you know where to look. This good friend happens to know I’m… Continue reading Pre3xistence Prelude

Thoughts on Siri & Search

I’ve been conversing on and off with Siri since she first appeared in our house, trapped between two sheets of Gorilla Glass. Some things of note so far…

Condescension

So I’d put our youngest to bed but she refused to settle.  One extended cuddle, drink of water, lullaby, dummy attachment, and short cuddle later, she was still upset. No idea what was wrong, I was starting to get frustrated – but then noticed that she’d been pointing at the floor the whole time.  Lightbulb… Continue reading Condescension
